About the Play Team Association
The Play Team continues the work of Dr. Rachel Pinney, Virginia Axline and others using a child-centred and Self Directed approach. The play follows the core conditions of empathy, congruence and of being non-judgemental. We hold the belief that everybody has the ability to achieve positive development and change, given the right environment.
During Special Play Time the child can play and explore a vast array of material
- sand trays and small world toys
- dolls, dolls house items
- role play; hats, bags, materials
- puppets
- creative arts materials such as paint, clay and collage
- musical instruments
In a safe, contained environment the adult will set clearly defined boundaries from within which children can play out their anxieties, fears or anger.
Our training for practitioners is an excellent tool which shows how to interact with children in a time that is designated as special and individual.
The communication techniques taught also supports parents and carers in their parenting roles and is a way of building bonds with the child that may have been broken due to their own emotional trauma.
